My boyfriend’s mom died a few weeks ago. While my boyfriend and I have been together for 2 years, I’ve been close with his family for about 15 years due to me being good friends with my boyfriend’s sister. At one point their parents took me in when I was a total mess and kept me from being homeless. His mom was a parent to me when I really needed one, and always believed in me. She was lovely. ❤️ A couple months before she passed, she’d asked me to be on the lookout for a paper guillotine for her while I was thrifting (second slide), and I took that as a quest. A few days ago I wrote “I’ve been having such great luck thrifting lately, I wonder if ____ is blessing me” in my journal, and the next day I found a paper guillotine at Goodwill for $5.49. My boyfriend said I should buy it in her honor, and that it’d be nice to have it when we move in together. So I did. I think I want to “name” it B. Her name started with B, but it’s also a Boston paper cutter, so I think it works! I’m not typically a believer in “signs” and I don’t really believe in an afterlife. But I’m hard pressed to deny that it feels like a sign! I also saw a butterfly as I was leaving the thrift store (she loved butterflies). I know it’s probably just serendipity, but it made me smile (though it also made me sad).

Tonight I put my youngest - my three year old - to bed. Tomorrow, he will wake up and be four. I won't have a toddler anymore, and I won't have one ever again. We will celebrate his birthday with bubbles and blueberry pancakes and Oreos and Hot Wheels that his big brother picked out for him. I'm so excited to see how he keeps growing and learning, I love him so much. I'm doing this by myself now; my husband recently died from cancer, but he had so much confidence in my parenting even when I didn't. He loved us deeply, and it's carrying us through. I know that I can do this, and that one day I'm going to look back and be proud of myself for getting our babies through this too. I want to be able to see moments of joy in their childhoods, not just sorrow. Reflecting on parenthood has made me introspective and you guys have been here for my questions and wins and losses and everything else. From the bottom of my heart, Thanks /toddlers.

Garmin Nuvi 1390LMT for those wondering. I was shocked when I found out that, it not only worked, but still could hold a decent charge and had a new map update available dated July 22, 2026. Although the unit is hardly used now, it functions just as well as it did 15 years ago, with the GPS still locking on quickly upon bootup and it giving accurate directions. Link for those who want to try update their old GPS as well. EDIT: Turns out the traffic antenna still works as well

i have been trying to find a new quilt for my bed. i have scoured this sub for recommendations and tips on what to look out for, and many of the comments on these threads seemed like they were genuinely helpful. but i keep finding myself stuck in this same paradoxical loop, which goes like this: people recommend something because they've had it for years and it's held up really well, but that means they bought it years ago and if you bought it today you're almost guaranteed to get a significantly worse product, likely at a higher price. alternatively, you can look at more recent recommendations, but that means no one knows yet if it'll withstand the test of time (or in the case of bedding, the test of multiple machine washes). it increasingly seems to be the case that if you want something and you want to BIFL, you must put in hours of research, probably buy something much more expensive than you were originally planning on, and even then there's a good chance it just falls apart because the speed of enshittification has made it so that information about a product's quality from more than a year ago has become outdated. apologies if this is a point already frequently discussed here, i'm just so frustrated with how much time and energy i have to put into buying mundane things, and how the best answer always seems to be to create a time machine and buy it from the past. it leaves me feeling so defeated. how does everyone deal with this?

I'm fed up. There is the mental load of constant repairs. The frustration of vacuuming only to have to sweep again immediately after because the vacuum doesn't vacuum anymore. The disappointment when your well-researched expensive cutting board cracks after two months of normal use. The anger when the highly-praised sewing machine you bought to mend all your falling-apart-after-a-few-wears clothing shows up on your doorstep and only runs at maximum speed. The worry that the one brand left that is supposed to make things of quality might have just been bought and will be enshittified next in the name of shareholder value. And the squeaky car dashboard that serves as a constant reminder that everything you own, including your car you spent a year's salary on and that is probably spying on you, is destined for a landfill. I'm tired. When will it end?

ImagineArt Fashion Studio feels like one of those tools that could genuinely help fashion brands sell more — just by making content creation way easier. Instead of needing a full studio setup, a team, and a proper campaign shoot every time, it gives you a way to create fashion visuals, lookbook shots, product images, and ad creatives directly inside ImagineArt. And honestly, that matters more than people think. If you can create better visuals faster, test more campaign ideas, and keep your branding consistent across ads and socials, that can absolutely have an impact on sales. I can see this being really useful for: fashion creators clothing brands e-commerce stores lookbook campaigns ad creatives and product storytelling Feels like @ImagineArt_X is moving beyond being “just another AI image tool” and building something much more specific for fashion and commerce. Would you actually use something like this for a fashion brand, or do you still think traditional shoots win every time? https://t.co/7enNWuJJ14

My brother and I went thrifting at a place called Red White and Blue Thrift and found this amazing shirt and a few other items. While checking out I noticed the shirt wasn’t scanned and told my brother to check the bag for the shirt maybe the cashier missed it. To our surprise the shirt was completely gone and I let the cashier know that we’re missing a shirt and maybe it fell over the counter and to check for us. She had the audacity to look down and all over her area for the shirt and proceeded to tell us there was no shirt. I paid for the items and left to find a manager and told them what happened. He went behind her counter and what do you know, he pulls out the shirt we told the cashier to look for. I hope that cashier feels embarrassed. Anyways, W find! Edit: this took place in Houston

Last month, Reddit updated their support page for "Redditor Highlights". You may have seen it on your feed already, the ads have started appearing for me this month. It is an ad-campaign tool that allows advertisers to include an AI summary of only the positive redditor sentiments directly in a product ad, scraped directly from reddit threads about the brand. Unfortunately, Vitamix caved to this feature for some bizarre reason despite already having great BIFL reviews in the past. The success story page literally references this sub. This has actually made more hesitant to purchase from them. BIFL is already astroturfed by shittier brands daily because the whole internet relies on it for consumer purchases large and small. This feature will worsen it: - Brands have already been trying to nudge the AI summaries of r/BuyItForLife on google and ChatGPT, and one way real redditors could previously combat that was just by posting negative feedback so the AI summary could consider it. It hilariously backfired in a few instances for the astroturfer. Reddit's feature negates this now because negative sentiments are not considered at all. - The feature is currently only available to "brands and products that have already earned high positive sentiment among redditors". This encourages brands to manufacture their positive sentiment to access ad tools that are gatekept from them. And of course I don't believe for a second that they'll be transparent about what brands can/can't access this tool; they want advertisers to use it. Reddit reviews are trusted because of nuance and discussion, and this feature saps all of that. But it's conveniently described as "real opinions" and "authentic community perspectives" while cutting a lot of the real stuff. Any time a brand tries a new form of marketing, be suspicious of the product and what they traded to spend on their campaign. I wish there were more we could do besides just avoiding the feature, and telling our friends to stop trusting the AI summaries, but that's what we got. Read more

This is my 1906 Winchester Model 1890 pump-action .22 rifle I picked up some time ago. I don't know the history on it, but if I had to guess from the mismatched parts, it was likely used as a gallery shooting gun. Despite being built during Theodore Roosevelt's Presidency, this rifle still functions and shoots phenomenally, though I have to be careful to use 36gr .22lr, as this gun is chambered in .22 Long (some longer. 22lr loadings won't fit, and the twist rate of the barrel doesn't stabilize heavier loads as well). I still shoot this rifle regularly, and if I eventually have kids, they'll learn to shoot with it. Maybe they'll even teach their kids to shoot with it.

My jaw was on the floor and I was shaking when I saw these all next to each other. - MCM glass and wood hutch for $99.99. A reseller bought it instantly while I was staring and said she's flipping it for $495. - Wood arch from 70s/80s for $19.99. I bought it with a coupon for $16 and am making it my plant display in my home office. - Painted green hutch with hairpin legs for $79.99. I have a piece that could be this one's cousin... So it stayed at the store.

Routine AM: Rinse with water Air dry Winlevi (whole face) Wait 30 min to absorb BoJ Aqua Fresh SPF PM: Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser Pat dry with towel Cerave Ultra-Light Moisturizing Gel Wait 15 min to absorb Arazlo (whole face) Context: age 27, acne started around 24, acne type is hormonal, skin type is combination leaning oily. I've tried every OTC under the sun and this was my last stop before going nuclear and getting Accutane. If your acne is also hormonal, I really recommend this combo because it's genuinely effective, doesn't go systemic, and the routine is minimalist. Both meds are prescription-only. Some other stuff: I did not experience purging on Arazlo but many people do Noticeable results came in around the 1-2 month mark. If I was more consistent, this entire process could have been shortened to 6 months Technically you don't need to buffer Arazlo with a moisturizer like I do since it comes in a hydrating vehicle lotion, but I still got occasional peeling with bare Arazlo so I just decided to moisturize my whole face instead and accept that I may absorb less product Only big downside is the cost. The two combined is around $200 in Canada (even more in the US; not sure about other places) and lasts around 2-3 months. Winlevi has a discount card called "Sun Pharma Patient Benefit Program" where if you can get your hands on it, you save a huge amount every purchase (the $200 is after savings lol). Hi! I have to share my excitement-there is a lovely little thrift store called E-Mart in Olympia, Washington where I’m visiting my aunt. Not only did it have a bunch of gorgeous indie nail polishes (BKL, KB Shimmer, etc) but I bought all of these perfume samples. Most aren’t indie but there are some big Sucreabeille and some Fantome! All of it was under $80 because the little ones were .50 cents and the biggest were $5, with 30% off anything over $2. The best part was the owner, who was so incredibly sweet and happy for me about how excited I was for my finds. He was just a delight to talk to and I wish I lived nearby so I could pass along the good karma by donating stuff. Whatever divas donated their stuff, thank you! I can try a new fragrance every day the next couple of months and I’ll pass along whatever I won’t use in my swaps.

[Trans/summarized] Part 1️⃣ #TheSecretSauce 🧑🏻‍🦱: In person, you are so handsome! 🐰: Oh, thank you! ☺️ 🧑🏻‍🦱: Allow me to call you Nong Win 😁 🐰: I will only give a permission to him, everyone! 😅 🧑🏻‍🦱: Seeing you as an artist, actor, or celebrity and on the other side people might already know, you do business and branding too. However people might think you're just the face or just doing marketing. What are you doing overall? 🐰: Actually, in terms of my roles, it's divided into two main parts: the entertainment industry part and my business part. My businesses include #SOURIBKK, #COSIE and #VELENCEBKK a clothing brand 💚 🟠: Why did you choose to interview Win today? 🧑🏻‍🦱: I think he is an actor/artist who has a very strong entrepreneurial mindset. From what I've followed, it's not just a passing trend where he uses his fame alone, but he's someone who understands marketing, products, branding, and new consumers. I want to come learn how a "Creator Brand", someone who is a creator or influencer builds a brand and makes it successful. 🧑🏻‍🦱: When you started, I understand there was a period of fan support and many things. Many people in entertainment do business like this. Now, which point—to be honest—made it break through or maintain and keep the business going further and further? 🐰: The key turning point for me was the moment when... ok, in the first year or two, there was full power supporting me, which I am very grateful for and appreciate. But over time, that power might gradually decrease or they might not buy as regularly as before. That made me see the change. So I started feeling, "if it's like this, it means the brand is tied too much to me." I reached a point of thinking, "What should I do if there is no Win Metawin anymore, but customers still love our brand" 🧑🏻‍🦱: This is a point that many people might not be able to cross, and your brand... when marketers classify it, they often group it as a "Creator Brand" or "Celebrity Brand," meaning a famous person starting a brand. 🐰: So I think how can I make them love me and also love the brand. Before, they might have bought solely because they loved me. So that was an important turning point: how to make them also love the brand. We started creating the brand's identity, rebranding everything, changing the logo, and setting up the brand's persona to see how it works up until today. But overall, we didn't change the product concept. So we solved the problem starting from the vibrant colors of the product first: what its character would be like, and how customers eating our treat would feel. I think this is important in starting branding. Once we got that, #SOURI had to be an extrovert, definitely a female character, given the colorfulness and cuteness.😊 At first, the colorway of the packaging or shop might have been very feminine, so I added the idea of how to make men feel confident walking into SOURI too, not just a place where men don't dare enter. We tried to make Souri friendly, approachable, and accessible for men as well. 🐰: I think the clearer we make the branding, the more people remember it. Because new brands pop up all the time, and a brand doesn't naturally have life, but we are creating life for it by infusing branding, identity, storytelling, and emotion so people can relate. It makes customers remember it, and once they remember, they will return to us and think of us. 😊 Full clip 🫶🏻 📌 https://t.co/k5RjJpotyZ #winmetawin #souri

Y'all have created a space where even the most record-scratch ideas are met with curiousity and enthusiasm (looking at you seekers of scents that are reminiscent of diabetic patches and amniotic fluid). We've never worried when sharing our more unusual ideas with IMAM that we'll be met with a skeptical "why." The openness here has been on my mind since our perfumer friend tagged us and our perfume, Garden Heaux, in an IG post yesterday from Allure Magazine. Allure shared an article about the recent boom in tomato fragrance interest. As a long time Tomat-heaux, I was very excited that more people will be introduced to broader olfactory intrigue through tomato perfumes! Cue opening the comments section and seeing so many people expressing shock and disgust that anyone would want to smell like a tomato plant. A perfumer even claimed nobody wants to smell like a tomato. Here we've been thinking tomato vine is indie entry level! 😅 I keep thinking about how scandalized they would be by the hyperrealistic blood note in our Romeo and Juliet inspired perfume, Thus With a Kiss (y'all might remember it as the perfume someone here said reminded them of Lestat from Interview With the Vampire). That comments section was such a funny contrast to the reality of our most recent restock of Garden Heaux (the largest we've ever done). Inventory was gobbled up so fast by newsletter nobodies that we had to shift some units from Etsy, reserved for international orders, to our website when we fully opened to everyone. All this to say, thank you for supporting indie perfumer nobodies. Thank you for all the funny and kind messages you sent with your orders telling us in a myriad ways you found us here. Thank you for making this our most successful restock across our collection 🌟 Nams & Debbie Read more

Last Friday I saw the bag. It ended up being a Dolce & Agbbanna bag, not a D&G bag. Manager offered to lower it by $300. He said it was real. He’d checked it. He swore it was real leather. A girl clocked out at 5 Monday. She said it was still there. She found it sus alone because there were tags. She came back yesterday, and it had sold. She didn’t see the D&A tag until I showed her a picture. I’m shocked the thrift store just sold it yesterday. I’ve never seen a Dolce & Agbbanna bag.

Catch and Release Recent thrift store finds! UPDATE! I went back to the thrift store today and purchased all three items. The sweatshirt is the only thing that fits right now, but I’ll find great homes for the t-shirt and shorts. Thanks so much to this community for bringing so many laughs and positive vibes to what started as just a single post! This could have been a complete outfit. The sequin shorts were even cuter IRL. P.S. Long time lurker first time poster in this subreddit. Hope I followed the guidelines.
